We are delighted to announce that HMS Chatham will be here for our annual Remembrance Day Service at the Great Lines on 11th November. A contingent from the Type 22 frigate - including an armed guard - will be led by the Captain, Commander Simon Huntington. Please put the date in your diary and return here for updates.
The seventh edition of KGV News is now available in the pub. Please take one home with you. It will keep you up to dates with what's happening at the pub with a full list of diary dates.
The third KGV Rum Club meeting saw us tasting rums from Argentina and Puerto Rico. Our guest was Francis Weier who passed on some of his tremendous knowledge of the rum industry. Our next meeting is on Monday 16th August when we will have a guest speaker and more rums to taste. Put the date in your diary.
We are extending our £5 pizza offer into Monday evenings. At the moment it's just availble between 1500 and 1700 on a Monday to Saturday, but it will now be available from 1500 until we close on a Monday night. There are four varieties in the range of 12" pizzas and you can eat them in the pub or take them home.
Pub of the year
The KGV has been chosen as The Pub of the Year by Bishop Gundulfs Morris.
A plaque and silver tray was presented to John & Diane at the pub on Tuesday
16th February by Gill Smith. The dancers often visit the pub on a Tuesday night
after their weekly practice session nearby. John said: "We are delighted to
have won this award. Whenever they visit the pub they lighten it up, so it's a
pleasure to see them."
New Ale
A new ale has been launched at The King George V to help raise money for a
memorial to a First World War hero. Read More at - Our 'William Hackett' page.
Acoustic Evening
The next acoustic music evening at the KGV is on Sunday 25th July starting at
2000. If you can play an instrument or sing, come along to join in!
Monday Club
We've just had our second Monday Club winner. This time Alan Perrin walked off with £110 following the £130 win for Deaf Roger. You can see it really does pay to join the Monday Club and turn up at the KGV between 1700 and 1900 on a Monday night.
Golf Society
Several people have shown enthusiasm for a golf day. If you are interested let the bar staff know so that we can take your name and phone number to get back to you if there are enough people to make it worthwhile.
Bonus Ball
There's a chance to win £45 each Saturday night if you correctly pick the National Lottery Bonus ball. It costs £1 to enter and the £4 surplus goes to our pub charities.
